☢️#222. A.I., 2001. Initially developed for screen by #StanleyKubrick, but completed as a posthumous tribute by longtime friend #StevenSpielberg. And that’s exactly what it feels like - a weird splicing of two master directors with distinctly differing tastes. 3.5/5☢️
☢️#221. Color Out of Space, 2019. #RichardStanley returns to the directors chair for the first time since famously being ejected from #TheIslandofDrMoreau in this #LoveCraftian #psychedelic #horror. Uneven, derivative, with a heaping spoonful of #NicolasCage goofiness. 3/5☢️
☢️#220. Turkey Shoot, 1982. The privileged hunt the poor in this #dystopian near-future nightmare. While slow to get started, this quintessential #Ozploitation flick proves to be a beautifully shot social satire with a wicked mean streak and plenty of over-the-top gore. 3.5/5☢️
☢️#219. Invasion of the Body Snatchers, 1956. With an alarming propensity for naming townspeople by their first and last name, hero doctor and perpetual flirt #KevinMccarthy roots out (sorry) commies one allegorical pod at a time. A bit dated, but a fun #scifi #classic. 3.5/5☢️
☢️#218. The Final Sanction, 1990. Just in time for the end of the #ColdWar, beefy #Bmovie heavies, #RobertZDar and #TedPrior go mano a mano for global #postapocalyptic domination in the killing fields of…Virginia. A zero budget snoozer with a few #sobaditsgood moments. 1.5/5☢️
☢️#216. Elysium, 2016. The lofty goal of taking on classism (if a bit on the nose) succumbs to a sloppy narrative and odd creative left turns in this #MattDamon starring action #scifi. Still a visual treat with successfully “weighted” looking CG robots and mech action. 3/5 ☢️
☢️#215. Survival of the Dead, 2009. Zombie fishing and horse eating. While not a highpoint in the #oftheDead series, there’s enough wit, charm, and clever gags to make this, #GeorgeRomero’s final film, a worthy entry. It almost makes up for the abysmal #DiaryoftheDead. 3/5☢️
☢️#214. How it Ends, 2021. A litany of comedic celebrities guide a woman and her corporeal inner child through a lifetime of therapy sessions in their final day on earth. Sound insightful and funny? Sometimes it truly is. But it’s mostly a rudderless drag. 2/5☢️
☢️#213. World War Z, 2013. Pushing #ragezombies to the inevitable breaking point of believability (and beyond), this visceral thrill ride is full of action, gore, and most importantly rugged #BradPitt handsomeness. All in all a total mess, but plenty of fun nonetheless. 3.5/5☢️
☢️#212. 10 Cloverfield Lane, 2016. The debatably best of the #Cloverfield anthology-of-diminishing-returns has only a tangential connection to the first film - souring audiences on the false branding/marketing scheme. Fortunately #JohnGoodman makes one hell of a monster. 4/5☢️
☢️#267, Landscape with Invisible Hand, 2023. Earth finds itself subjugated by aliens not by force but by capitalism. A imaginative and thoughtful indy with surprising twists and fun creature designs. More charming than outright hilarious, but entertaining throughout. 3.5/5 ☢️
☢️#211. Diani & Devine Meet the Apocalypse, 2016. Despite the emphasis on potentially alienating inside-baseball LA humor, there’s enough scrappy inventiveness, laffs, and rapid fire #apocalyptic fun to make this an indy road trip worth going on. 3/5☢️
Finished the #Fallout series last night - excited for more (definitely gonna be a second season). Nailed the tone, design and spirit while deftly avoiding the many blind alleys that could’ve been pursued (liar revealed etc). I dug it. What say you fellow wastelanders?
☢️#210. A Quiet Place Part II, 2021. As full of logic holes/nitpick bait as the previous installment, though happily it has just as much heart and tension as well. Plus more monstery action! A rare success in the the “more of the same, but different” approach to sequels. 3.5/5☢️
☢️#209. Teenage Caveman, 1958. In this cheap spiritual precursor to #PlanetoftheApes, a decidedly non-teenage #RobertVaughn wanders the forest aimlessly in a fuzzy loincloth. Barring a twist ending (that I’ve already spoiled), there’s little of interest to be found. #Corman 2/5☢️
☢️#208. Seeking a Friend For the End of the World, 2012. This depressing date movie is at its best when illuminating the dark crevasses of the human condition. Unfortunately much of the runtime is spent navel gazing with an uninspired man and his #manicpixiedreamgirl. 3.5/5 ☢️

@GabeCrate @benjaminwah2016 the plots weak with the bat nonsense if rewritten and sets they used this could have been an all-time contender up there with the greats and the lighting sucks also.

@GabeCrate I'd love to have seen the film Kubrick would have made from the script, but I think he realized he couldn't bring the warm and fuzzy the story needed.
@GabeCrate Kubrick's version would have been far superior. Spielberg brought his trademark schmaltz. I couldn't finish it.

@GabeCrate I really wanted to love this, but it's disjointed and all over the place. Too many elements from other stories interjected in for no reason. It's a hodgepodge of Lovecraft, and it would've been great if it didn't jump the rails so early.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was released on this day in 2005. I like the movie a lot. I was aware of the novel, but I didn't know it began as a radio series. I saw the 1981 BBC six part series many years later. It has a better ending than the movie. What do you guys say?
