Cohost shutting down is deafeningly miserable. But it showed us so much about what social media could be like. No clout numbers floating about. Old web practices like having *fun* with CSS and HTML (gasp). Talking to people as people and not as combatants. Great self-moderation.

When I say the British aristocracy basically just transferred their control to being through the media rather than direct, this is the kind of thing I mean.

My view is that if you choose to use the moments after a spate of anti-immigrant riots and racist pogroms to crackdown on migrants and asylum-seekers - then you are fuelling the fire that the far-right is burning.

Labour is announcing a "major surge" in immigration enforcement. They will aim to achieve in next 6 months the "highest rate of removals of those with no right to be here, including failed asylum-seekers, for five years". Will increase detention capacity to achieve it.

i'm a broken record on this, but the fact that basically everything about videogame culture has been offloaded to youtubers and streamers is profoundly bleak. blogs died years ago, outlets are dying now, and the people actually making the games aren't doing much better either.

Devastating. Game Informer was the magazine that got me interested in games writing to begin with. There is no replacement for the work they did.
