Yes! It's not "fading" if the support is on the shirt sleeve instead of the wrist. Even S2C/RPM practitioners touch their clients on the neck or shoulder at times to cue them.
@FCisnotScience The student watched lots of FC videos. Those that showed progression often showed the facilitator’s hand leaving the child’s hand, moving to the wrist, then the forearm, then sometimes to the shoulder. She came in and said “Don’t they know you’re supposed to fade off, not up?”
Interesting. It's been a long time since I've been directly involved with FC as a facilitator, but we were told the physical touch was for "emotional" support and limb stabilization.
@FCisnotScience My least knowledgeable FC issue is prompt fading. “Prompt,” “cue,” etc. are implicitly banned words. My understanding was you’re supposed to move the board and not talk about it. If you do talk about it, just say you’re not moving the board, you’re helping with the apraxia.
That makes sense to me. I've looked at a lot of FC/S2C/RPM videos and it strikes me time and again how much work the facilitators do during letter selection.
@FCisnotScience I had a student do a paper for a conference where she read the FC literature for references to the real prompt fading/transfer literature. She found nothing. Their elementary error is reducing prompt magnitude rather than programming for and testing actual prompt transfer.

Yes! Distance, too. The facilitator can be out of camera range and still be cueing their client or loved one. On screen the letter selection looks like it's independently produced. I always wonder about comprehension skills. Does the person understand what he or she is "typing?"

Agreed. As far as I know, there are no direct instructions or timelines included in any FC/S2C/RPM training books that address fading facilitator cueing and control. People are still reliant on facilitators even after 20-30 years. How is that independence?

@FCisnotScience And how long before the board of ASHA has sitting members who have been convinced by the trick of cued spelling? How many already believe that cued spelling is sometimes valid? (I ask this having no idea of the answer, but I think all humans are vulnerable to mentalism tricks.)
