Today is the 85th birthday of Bob Dylan, one of the most influential musicians of all time. Born Robert Zimmerman to a proud Jewish family, Dylan changed music forever while never losing touch with his Jewish roots. In honor of his birthday, here’s a beautiful Bob Dylan story: Bob Dylan once quietly walked into a Chabad house in Brooklyn and asked to wrap tefillin. The rabbi helping him didn’t recognize who he was until later, saying: “He had the same soul as any Jew coming back home.” Even legends find their way back.

New Short Film: “The Joshniks” Very frequently, the team at Chabad.org receives a startlingly similar message. It usually reads something like this: “I’ve been learning with Rabbi Gordon every morning for months. I feel like I know him. I just looked him up, and I’m in shock—I had no idea he passed away years ago.” This week marks the 10th yahrtzeit of Rabbi Yehoshua B. (“Josh”) Gordon. Yet, the confusion is understandable. For hundreds of thousands of students worldwide who log on to Chabad.org and a cluster of Chabad.org apps to study Chumash, Tanya, and Rambam, he is still very much alive. A new documentary released this week by Chabad.org, The Joshniks, explores the unique story of the continued impact and legacy of Rabbi Gordon. While Rabbi Gordon's classroom is global, the film focuses intimately on a community of learners in Port Washington, New York. It captures the story of people who never met him, yet live and learn with him every day, proving that his teaching—witty, clear, and personal—is as eternal as the Torah he teaches. These are the final moments of 10 year old Matilda. She was happy and smiling after getting her face painted. Moments later she was gunned down by the Bondi Beach terrorist simply because she was Jewish.

12-year-old Yosef, injured in the Bondi massacre on the first night of Hanukkah, lights the menorah in the hospital. Even in the darkness, the Jewish people choose light. 🕎

“Her instinct is to save lives while these terrorists are killing people. What a contrast.” Rabbi Yaakov Lieder, grandfather of Chaya Dadon, describes his 14-year-old granddaughter and the inspiring type of person she is. Chaya was hiding under a bench with a friend as the Bondi Beach massacre began when she noticed two little girls left unprotected. She quickly left her hiding place, jumped on top of them and shielded them with her body. Chaya was shot in the leg and has been recovering in the hospital since, but she saved the precious lives of the two little girls. Her heart is as pure as they come, and her bravery is incomparable. Chaya is the epitome of a modern day hero.

Leibel has miraculously survived the terrorist shooting in Sydney. 🙏 While crouching over a critically injured Australian @nswpolice police officer, using his own shirt as a tourniquet and risking his life to help him. Leibel has undergone multiple life-saving surgeries for severe abdominal and leg injury and faces additional surgery and a long road of medical treatment.

“I got you. I got you. We’re going to stay here and we’re going to be nice and safe.” In the midst of the Bondi Beach Chanukah massacre, a woman comforted a child she didn't know as piercing screams and gunshots echoed in the background. Such a heartbreaking watch 💔
