Reminder that this was done by being "anti-car." Space, and lots of it, taken from cars. We can't "promote sustainable transportation" without being real about taking away space and rights from, and adding costs to, car owners.

I see arguments like "people want to ban all cars." I don't really see those. What I see instead are situations like last year, when my city had a chance to install a fully protected bike lane for high school kids, and chose to cave and leave parking for the loudest complainers.
@ElleryKlein This whole movement is extremely ableist honestly.
@ElleryKlein There's a world of difference between Europe and the U.S. We don't have the transportation infrastructure like most European cities. We need less bike lanes. We need coordinated lights and tougher driving tests - especially for new immigrants and the elderly.
@ElleryKlein I prefer “repurposing street space” I think semantics matter. There’s ways to be anti car without explicitly calling it that. “Creating safer streets” or “low traffic streets” as opposed to “limiting cars”
@ElleryKlein But @clmarohn @StrongTowns tells me to have sympathy for motorists. 🙃 strongtowns.org/journal/2024/3…
