Gerrit Cole More information from @BryanHoch Cole is dealing with inflammation and swelling around a nerve, likely the ulnar nerve which is actually quite common. The ulnar nerve run just below the UCL and that pain and swelling around the nerve could be the primary culprit of why Cole’s not pitching right now. This nerve is usually moved during Tommy John surgery (see photos) because of its poor path. The nerve being irritated is what is responsible for controlling pain and muscle spasming. Get the nerve to calm down and he should be able to ramp up again. Wouldn’t be surprised if the doctors injected 5% dextrose or some non-inflammatory stem cell products to calm down the nerve. PRP is pro-inflammatory and not a good choice around the nerve. He could return sooner than the 2-3 months if this is the primary issue he’s dealing with. Hope this was helpful, consider following along for more sports-injury related explanations.

@DrJesseMorse @BryanHoch Is this similar to what stafford was dealing with I think 2 years ago? I remember rams org just kept saying that it's something pitchers deal with.
@DrJesseMorse @BryanHoch This is probably a really stupid question but. What’s the difference between this and tendinitis? It seems like both are due to overuse/too much use too quickly? Or am I not making sense?
@DrJesseMorse @BryanHoch Stupid question… could they go in and do a nerve ablation (burn the nerve endings) yes I know they will regenerate as time goes on. I know this cause I’ve had multiple ones done on my lower back… but was just curious?
@DrJesseMorse @BryanHoch Help him doctor. Help him.
