Obesity rates are higher in non-white BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color), and obesity increases an individual’s risk of developing type 2 diabetes, among other factors like genetic predisposition.
Correcting for income level, Black and Hispanic PWD are substantially less likely to have access to diabetes technology – technology which has been proven to improve health outcomes. Source: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
Due to racial bias and prejudice, racial and ethnic minorities are offered diabetes technology at a significantly lower rate, removing the option for these individuals to utilize tools that may improve their health.
