Qatar's Stranded LNG Fleet Is Starting to Move Again We don't just track crossings. The speed of Qatar-controlled LNG tankers tells the whole story. Fleet average speed ran 10-12 knots through late 2025 — then cratered to ~4 knots when the Iran war shut the Strait of Hormuz in late February. With no alternative export route, Qatar's tankers had nowhere to go. Dozens sat moored off the coast of India for months. The recovery won't be quick — Iranian strikes took out ~12.8 MTPA of Ras Laffan capacity (3-5 year repair timeline), and a restart explosion at the Barzan facility on June 22 killed 13 workers. But the Strait is reopening under the interim US-Iran deal, and the tankers are finally moving.

During the investigation, officers seized approximately 121.55 pounds (55 kilograms) of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $16.3 million. QatarEnergy notified Edison of five more cancelled LNG cargoes, extending its force majeure through mid-August. Total cancellations have reached 17 cargoes since April, representing roughly 2.2 bcm.
