I never been a head coach but I have coached under some that have won state titles and coached under some that have abysmal records. Just my opinion, I think a lot of people make it harder than the job is. If the most important things to you in order 1. ALL of your players 2. ALL of your assistants 3. Support staff 4. Teachers, school staff, and admins 5. Yourself And you make decisions based off that, you will very likely be an elite head coach. Even if you aren’t elite in Xs and Os. You can always hire assistants that are elite in Xs and Os. But your skills as a manager will lead you to success if your priorities are in order.

@Coach_Moore_MV I agree w/this take. I think there’s a lot of coaches who CANNOT do 1-3 though; but I feel like those are the foundation of an elite culture.
@Coach_Moore_MV I think most people that become 1st time head coaches under estimate how hard the job is…. And over estimate their ability to lift not only their program, but also lift all the campus programs as AD or Athletic Coordinator on a campus… the trip hazards are endless… be nimble!
