The entire Cardinals family is heartbroken to learn of the passing of Hall of Famer and World Series champion manager Whitey Herzog at the age of 92.
Whitey Herzog managed the Cardinals for parts of 11 seasons from 1980-90, leading the team to three National League pennants and the 1982 World Series title. 'Whiteyball', as it came to be known in St. Louis, placed an emphasis on strong pitching and defense, speed on the basepaths, and contact hitting. He was inducted into the @baseballhall in 2010 and the Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2014.
@Cardinals It might do you clowns good to go back to something closely resembling Whiteyball now. Oliball zertainly isn’t getting the job done.
@Cardinals I got to meet Whitey about 15 years or so ago. Super nice guy and a great manager.
@Cardinals Used to love watching Whitey’s teams run the opposition out of games. Pitching, speed & defense.
@Cardinals First thing he's going to do is get right back in Don Denkinger's face (I hope.)
@Cardinals Whitey Ball was the the most exciting era of baseball. RIP
