@jjohns313 Eating right + exercising are essential to good health & longevity. Why resist so fiercely and be all consumed and obsessed by what others think? F others and be good to yourself; what you think of yourself is the most important thing in life. Aim for progress, not perfection.

@OlavFolland @kate_manne Understand. It seems a 14-hour no eating window works well. So, if you eat by 8 pm, breakfast can be at 10 am or later, if that works.

Summary of best diet regimen to be followed forever: 1. Avoid processed food and sugary stuff 2. Avoid snacking betwixt meals 3. Reduce portion sizes 4. Eat vegetables, whole grains & fruits 5. Dinner by 6 pm, breakfast after 8 am 6. Eat slowly, mindfully

@nytopinion @kate_manne Prof. Manne’s op-ed is bad advice. Self-pity is not going to lead you to either happiness or peace. Moderation, temperance, self-control, discipline, understanding, perseverance are stoic virtues, not moral lapses. Controlling others is power, controlling yourself is true power.

@nytopinion @kate_manne 3/3: No need to be chronically hungry, cranky & write soppy op-eds. 1. Avoid all processed food 2. Avoid snacking betwixt meals 3. Reduce portion sizes 4. Eat vegetables, whole fruits and grains 5. Dinner by 6 pm & breakfast at 8 am 6. 30 mins strength, flex, cardio exercise

@nytopinion @kate_manne 2/3: No need to lose weight in a hurry. And being fit in body and mind is a virtue, not a moral failing. Dieting as a timed project to lose weight is bound to result in misery, failure. The key: slowly, but permanently, change your lifestyle and aim at progress, not perfection.

@nytopinion @kate_manne 1/3: Prof. Kate Manne is being a bit of a drama queen when she says: "As usual, the weight came off only with extreme efforts: Over the course of a month last winter, I didn’t eat for 17 out of 30 days." No need to resort to such extreme measures and then wail in public.
