Now is the time for the U.S. Senate to do the right thing and call a vote on crucial voting rights legislation. Future generations are counting on us to protect our democracy. I wrote out some thoughts about why this is so important. usatoday.com/story/opinion/…
The filibuster has no basis in the Constitution, and in recent years, it has become a routine way for the Senate minority to block important progress on issues supported by the majority of voters. But we can’t allow it to be used to block efforts to protect our democracy.
@BarackObama "If the majority chooses to end the filibuster, if they choose to change the rules and put an end to Democratic debate, then the fighting and the bitterness and the gridlock will only get worse," Obama said. (While a sitting Senator)
@CadgerGreg @BarackObama Without Americans’ Voting Rights secured & intact, there will be NO future‘Democratic Debate’. If the US Senate refuses to pass Voting Rights legislation, it’s over- beginning of the end for Western Democracy in the USA. We’re a hop, skip & a jump from full blown totalitarianism!
