Heard a parent spazzing on their kid yesterday walking to the car. Told em “you need to go play on a team with 6-7 players and get your stats up…got me wasting money now to see you score 3 pts” I kept walking but im like…man that seed gets planted into kid’s heads early. Win or Lose..Talent or No Talent…its about “getting your stats up” Coaches can only be as effective as the messages reinforced in the car and at home.
@CoachJonesACS Totally agree, but it's not just the parents it's the culture of sports & what we choose to recognize. That same kid, scoring 3 but in an efficient game MIGHT get recognized for playing "hard", but press & reports will really only glorify kid that scored 21, no matter efficiency.
@BallerMom2020 @CoachJonesACS Could not have said it any better.
@BallerMom2020 @CoachJonesACS College coaches aren’t getting fooled by healines. They watch the film.
@BallerMom2020 @CoachJonesACS If I’m guarding a kid and he scores 21 but I hold him to 5/20 shooting and he commits 6 turnovers and everybody talks about the points he scored that is exactly why the Europeans are surpassing us.
@BallerMom2020 @CoachJonesACS Yes! Scoring points is great (I’m a shooting guard so I try to earn buckets); but how about the kids that give the assist or guard opponents to enable their team mate to be open to take the shot? So much talent goes under appreciated and media focus is all about the points.
