Heard a parent spazzing on their kid yesterday walking to the car. Told em “you need to go play on a team with 6-7 players and get your stats up…got me wasting money now to see you score 3 pts” I kept walking but im like…man that seed gets planted into kid’s heads early. Win or Lose..Talent or No Talent…its about “getting your stats up” Coaches can only be as effective as the messages reinforced in the car and at home.
@CoachJonesACS Good points. Not many coaches do, but having a parent session to educate about the style of play from coaches, goals for the team and players and expextations would also be helpful.
@CoachJonesACS @CoachJuliaWells Parents ruin youth sports.
@CoachJonesACS Coach I know players that received a HM offer after scoring on 4 points in a game. It was clearly not about shooting abunch of shots and scoring a bag of points. Parents can be their kid's worst enemy in so many ways
@CoachJonesACS Gotta get those stats up for sure. That’s what matters
@CoachJonesACS Exactly why the European players are starting to pass the American born players raised in the AAU mentality. In Europe it is all about development of skills and the "team" game. Here it is all about the individual.
@CoachJonesACS This is most travel sports parents. This one just chose to say it loud enough for everyone to hear.
@CoachJonesACS 1st day I ask them if they’ve heard of MJ. Everyone has. I then ask them if they’ve heard of Karl Malone. Almost none have (middle school girls). I say that’s bc, even though Malone scored more, MJ won and he didn’t. So do only what helps us win bc that’s how you get famous.
