So to get some more information: Which Part A reading — buy-in only, or a new premium on people with 40 quarters? Are you prepared to tell a couple whose only “raise” was two COLAs that a frozen $218k line now puts them in IRMAA? Where is the table that gets from this minority surcharge to $573 billion? What happens to the HI Trust Fund under their Part A sentence — extra money in, or just reshuffled buy-in premiums? And this is the result:

Premiums from seniors on Medicare is already covering 50% of the Medicare cost. - People have paid for Part A - Part B is already premium based and high income people are already paying IRMAA - Part D is as well already premium based and people pay for that So what is in fact proposed is "Oh well, you paid, but you have to pay some more, so we can give out other free stuff.".

@RyanLEllis @n_nk0kura Yes, except then you have the same argument as for Social Security - "If I'd been allowed to put that money into a private HSA I wouldn't need Medicare". Over the last 40 years people have paid a lot towards that, while also paying for their own healthcare.

So if someone makes more, as a retiree, then they should pay the same as someone who does not have enough work credits? So you paid in and then voila, you get to pay some more? Then you'd freeze the IRMAA cut-off so that inflation would suck in more people over time. Then higher income people would get stuck with even more over time. Funny how everyone's beating up on old people but then doesn't do anything with Medicaid, SNAP, Section 8, and any other program that is actually an entitlement.
