Parents! Get it in writing. Seriously, IN WRITING. If they call, send a follow-up summarizing the conversation. Tell me about a time you got it in writing and were glad you did.

Does your child show signs of school anxiety? You may want to approach this concern with the school and create a plan to help reduce anxiety and strengthen self-esteem. What signs of school anxiety have you see in your child? What have you tried to help?
When should you start to worry about your child's ability to read? Signs of dyslexia can be spotted in kindergarten. So start asking questions NOW. When did your child begin reading?

Special Education Parents work harder than most people understand. I get to the end of my work day and still have hours of homework, emotional unpacking, and school navigation and accountability with my kid to work through.
We are coming up on end of the year assessments. This can be a hard time of year for parents and kids alike. But keep your eye on the ball, these tests are not the end all be all of a developing person. What do you do to prepare your kids for these standardized tests?
The mystery is explained. If you child is a kid that relies on consistency and routine, they want to know what they are going to get. Nature doesn't offer a lot of consistency. What does your child refuse to eat?
Does your child need pictures to read? Please do not let the school tell you they are "making progress" if they need the pictures to read the book. Type those same words out on a piece of paper and see if they can read them. Then address what you find with your child's teacher.
#Dyslexia is real, it real for 1 in 5 people. It is runs in families. Do you have dyslexia or know someone who does? What am I talking about, do you know 5 people? Then you know someone who does. Do you know anyone that wears it proudly?
As an advocate, I see parents navigating the world of oppositional defiance. It's like a puzzle, stress might just be a missing piece. Every behavior is a form of communication, especially in our kids with #autism or #ADHD. #StressSignal #SpecialNeedsParenting #BehaviorAdvocate
