I’m a husband, father, son, brother, and friend. I’m strong, smart, confident, and resilient. But sometimes I’m sad, or lonely, or afraid, and sometimes I feel vulnerable and unsure. But it’s okay. That makes me no less a man. It simply makes me human. I am enough. #StopSuicide
Mental health is more than a diagnosis. It is your overall emotional and mental wellbeing, including both positive and negative elements. If we focused more on wellness and recovery, as opposed to illness and disability, we would have better mental health outcomes. #StopSuicide
I had a high school coach who would yell, “rub some dirt on it”, whenever a player complained about an injury. That’s a lot like telling a person battling depression or suicidal thoughts to, “just think happy thoughts”. Neither response is healing or helpful. #StopSuicide
Suicide is complex. There is no one answer as to why a people choose to end their lives. But if we created more upstream prevention and intervention, and safe spaces to talk about and manage negative feelings, we would see fewer people reach suicidal desperation. #StopSuicide
Telling a person battling severe depression or suicidal thoughts to “snap out of it” is demeaning. Saying to them, “I am sorry that you’re hurting. You are loved, you matter, your life matters”, is encouraging and may remind that individual that they are not alone. #StopSuicide

It is important to me that I let my sons know it's normal to feel stressed, or afraid, or sad, or lonely at times. Everyone does, including Dad. Recognizing these feelings and knowing that stressful times pass and life gets better can help children build resilience. #StopSuicide

Telling a person battling severe depression or suicidal thoughts to “snap out of it” is demeaning. Saying to them, “I am sorry that you’re hurting. You are loved, you matter, your life matters”, is encouraging and may remind that individual that they are not alone. #StopSuicide

Mental health issues will always be misunderstood by those lucky enough to have never suffered with them...
I had a high school coach who would yell, “rub some dirt on it”, whenever a player complained about an injury. That’s a lot like telling a person battling depression or suicidal thoughts to, “just think happy thoughts”. Neither response is healing or helpful. #StopSuicide
