@ASaunders_PGH @Mikey5Aces But all pitchers take those precautions now. Have been for at least the last 10-15 years. So there isn't anything to compare to in the recent past. Can only compare to prior to when they started doing the pitch counts. And data says it's worse now.
@yinzer_g @Mikey5Aces Not to the same level. That's how we know they're effective. The teams and players that push harder than others get hurt more often.
@ASaunders_PGH @Mikey5Aces I agree it's not at the same level, just not the way you are saying. Look at this MLB Tommy John surgery chart. It's pretty clear.
Yes. More pitchers have Tommy John surgery than ever. More pitchers throw harder and with higher spin rates than ever, or at least in recorded history (which is all we have to compare TJ surgery rates to, anyway). Also, pitcher that take more precautions in terms of pitch counts and innings limits have fewer Tommy John surgeries than ones that don't, and by a statistically significant amount.
@yinzer_g @Mikey5Aces If teams stopped with pitch and innings limits, there is clear data that there would be a significant further increase in TJ surgeries, over and above what we're seeing right now.
@ASaunders_PGH @Mikey5Aces Where is the data? I've looked. All charts say more Tommy John's surgeries since they started implementing pitch counts. I'd be all for these pitch counts if the data said less Tommy John's surgeries. But the data says the opposite.
@ASaunders_PGH @Mikey5Aces This honestly would be a good story for you to write. Why are there more Tommy John surgeries since they started doing pitch counts? Instead of ignoring the data and going along with the narrative, look into it and write a great unbiased piece.
@yinzer_g @ASaunders_PGH @Mikey5Aces Simple....KIDS are pitching tons of innings at an early age, All Stars, travel Teams, year round pitching..And of course...Dumb A** Managers having them through curves every other pitch...Atba young age
@Disco198121 @ASaunders_PGH @Mikey5Aces So why isn't this fixed at the youth sports leagues? When I pitched in little league and in HS, we had pitch counts, inning counts and couldn't pitch more than once a week. Rather than do it in the big leagues, fix it in the youth leagues like we used to.
@yinzer_g @ASaunders_PGH @Mikey5Aces Oh I agree...I Coached LL for Years...But now you have, I call them " Hero Dads "... Get their STAR Pitchers, To pitch in their regular League, Travel Leagues, Fall Ball... Everywhere... Just to say, " Look at MY Kid"...He strikes EVERYONE out, Got this nasty curve...And
@Disco198121 @ASaunders_PGH @Mikey5Aces Kids need to play multiple sports until at least high school
