Michael Heizer spent half a century in the desert creating the largest sculpture on Earth. Last year, I was one of the only people allowed to visit it. How can art exist without an audience? What does it owe us– and what do we owe it? youtu.be/6oqO3FXSecM
@yacobg42 Do you think Heizer is correct that as soon as he dies They™ are going to turn the place into a tourist attraction, or will it not have the kind of draw/accessibility to be functional and profitable?
@yacobg42 Video is great, although there are plenty of photos of City on the internet. Kind of defeats the concept.
@yacobg42 @mikeyface Art is nice and accessible. Cult of personality is building an ark in the desert that no one can see. Unless he's in the mood. And you have money.
@yacobg42 When you first started describing City I was considering looking up to see if there were pictures of it but as you described it more I got more conflicted about it while my curiosity remained. It was when you said that there *are* pictures that my mind was made up not to see them
@yacobg42 I think in this era of consumption, that's precisely what makes it art, it's a statement. I'm gonna watch this. Thanks for sharing.
@yacobg42 Crazy man builds giant artwork in desert which he doesn't want anybody to see and it's kinda mid. There, saved y'all 55 min
