Cool wave clouds called an undular bore moved across the Outer Banks this morning. When a low-level boundary such as a cold front or outflow boundary approaches a layer of cold, stable air, it creates a disturbance in the atmosphere, producing a wave-like motion known as a gravity wave. In this case a strong outflow boundary from storms last night in Virgina. Thank you to📷 Jennifer DeYoung Purser in Hatteras for the pictures. #obx #ncwx #obxwx
Remember that undular bore in the outer banks on Tuesday? Here's another one today, due to a cold front in Texas. #txwx
@wxbrad The conspiracy people will say it’s not natural…
@wxbrad Are these the same as the morning glory clouds? That's been on my bucket list to go see in the Gulf of carpentaria...
@wxbrad @BigJoeBastardi Is this a gravity cloud? It's Florida in winter. Fort Lauderdale beach
@wxbrad Seems like NC gets the best stuff 😔, I wish these could form in Hampton VA but in my life time I’ve never seen anything like this, hopefully one day when I move to SC in late April, I will get a chance 🤞🏻
