"Most men die at 25, we just bury them at 72" I think one of the greatest tragedies in life is how early people begin negotiating DOWN their ambitions. At 15, they want to conquer the world. At 25, they want to be comfortable. At 35, they just want to make it through the fucking week. What happened? At what point did you decide that the extraordinary was no longer available to you? There is something DIVINE about the human impulse to ascend. To reach beyond everything you presently know yourself to be. The ancient theologians called the highest heaven THE EMPYREAN. I think every man ought to have an empyrean of his own. Some magnificent ideal, so impossibly high that its pursuit demands the COMPLETE transformation of his character. Jim Rohn used to say, "I recommend each of you to make it a goal of yours, to become a millionaire. Not for the money, for what becoming a millionaire will make of you!" Most of you, sad to say, are shooting far, far under what you're capable of. It's no wonder you're not excited by it. And the really tragic thing is that you have mistaken this absence of excitement for some deficiency in your own character. Yall niggas, think something is wrong with you. You think you need more discipline. Or maybe, it's that you don't have enoughn "motivation." Or that perhaps the answer is some new routine to drag yourself out of bed in the morning. When the REAL problem is that the future you're working toward is nowhere near magnificent enough to COMMAND your FULL ATTENTION. Give yourself something worth becoming OBSESSED with. Something that makes the sacrifices seem trivial. Something that demands more of you than you have ever demanded of yourself. Something that frightens you a little, for God's sake! You may never reach the summit. But GOOD GOD, look at what you might become in the climbing. Three quotes for your contemplation: 1) Ralph Waldo Emerson, "Hitch your wagon to a star!" 2) Robert Browning, "Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, Or what's a heaven for?" 3) Napoleon, "Impossible is a word to be found only in the dictionary of fools!"

They asked Napoleon, “Sir, what is your next plan?” Napoleon replied, “I act, and the plan emerges from my action.”

Two comments worth adding here: 1. Hitler said that paying homage at Napoleon's tomb was by far the proudest moment of his life. 2. Caesar, at seeing the statue of Alexander, cried, because he was the same age Alexander was after having conquered the world, while not having achieved anything himself. An enormous component of success is admiring the right people, and patterning and modelling yourself after them.

Playfulness is the highest intelligence. Watch a genius work, he's joylaughing. Watch a fool work, he's furious. Seriousness is a mask worn by men who fear being seen playing. God made dolphins, puppies, and orgasms. The evidence is in. He wants us laughing.

I am impressed by this. Not by their climbing or bypassing security. But to be such a specific kind of crazy, that requires not just bravado but also great skill, and to find someone exactly as crazy, as skilful, as willing, who even happens to look like you and to have them be in love with you... few people will ever be so lucky, few people will ever live life so fully. To be lucky to find this, you don't need to live 80 or 90 years. They have already lived a hundred lives.

BREAKING: Two people have climbed to the top of the Empire State Building in New York City, holding a banner from the skyscraper's antenna reading, "When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace." As of now it's unclear how the pair reached the top of the building as police work to get them down from the spire, 1,454 feet above the ground.
