Then you can kiss goodbye to decent companion development, story arcs, a balance of returning/new monsters. Doctor Who benefits from variety and 3 episodes a year just gives you no time to do so. We'd end up with Doctors with like 6-9 episodes under their belt before leaving.

If #DoctorWho ever does return, I can easily see it being transformed into a #Sherlock style 3x90 minute Special event-series. They'll air in November close to the Anniversary, with a Christmas Special a month later. Each special will be like a movie. Audios can fill the gaps.

You know there's still a very real possibility that they decide to give the Doctor role to Billie once the show properly comes back. It's not likely I'd say, but everyone assumes this will never get explained when actually they very easily could still give her the role.

I’m quite excited for the staggered amount of information we’ll probably have coming our way I must say. I imagine we’ll have seperate press releases over the next few years for who’s got the show, episode count, when it coming, showrunner announcements, cast announcements etc.

The problem I think people forget with making Doctor Who series shorter is the show is constantly a rotating cast and as a result you end up with unfleshed out companions, fleeting Doctors and not enough decent balance of adventures. The show would struggle under 6 episodes.

but it's not unbearable to watch, it's charming enough and I can see a good story amongst all the chaos of it. The scene where Poppy vanishes might be up there for me as a favourite of Doctor Who, it's so chilling and sad. I just think RTD had too much confidence in himself.

What I don't like is the mystery boxes RTD sets up that never get proper pay off or correct pay off like Mrs Flood and the Boss. I don't like the ending they tacked on due to Ncuti leaving, but it works enough for me. I don't like that RTD doesn't let things get good explanations

I just rewatched Wish World and The Reality War and I'm sorry but it's not as catastrophically unforgivable as some people make out. The Billie Piper of it all sucks now and I wish we could erase it, and it's nowhere near as well done as it could be, but I don't hate it.

Personally I hope they stick to 8 episodes and 1 Christmas special a year. I always take Series 7B as the perfect example of how the show can have an 8 episode series with a lot of variety, great Doctor/companion development and a decent story arc. One of my favourite series.

I think Chibnall tried in his first series to just disconnect from the rest of the show and it felt odd, & RTD has tried too hard to constantly reference back. There can be a best of both worlds that gives nice treats for the long time fans but makes it accessible to new viewers.

I want a balance. I don’t want an era that just completely forgets anything that came before but I want the opportunity to see new stuff and good fresh ideas. New Doctor, companions, monsters etc. but keep UNIT, show me old companions sometimes, give me Daleks.

Honestly I'm still not over the Chibnall era not fully finishing the Tecteun story, and now we have had a whole other era with a hundred other loose threads. This is the one thing the show needs to avoid now. Take the Smith era for example...every single thread tied up.

I am gonna say that despite all of this I did still really enjoy the RTD2 era. Episode to episode it’s a great watch with little to no duds, but it’s the framework of the era and the story arcs and lack of explanations that ruins it sadly. But I won’t re-write my love for it.

@acequeenkingpin When I watch back The Time of the Doctor I’m amazed at what he wraps up. He even wraps up story arcs you don’t realise still need wrapping up. They never felt like loose plot threads but he dealt with them all.

@_NickDraws I agree. It bugs me to no end. They could’ve ended Reality War with the search for Poppy beginning and had a special with Ruby, Belinda, Susan and 15 with him leaving at the end and then if the show ended for a while, it ends with things tied up. Ncuti just dipped so suddenly.

We were truly robbed of one final Ncuti episode with Ruby and Belinda by his side, in a similiar way to Martha and Donna in The Doctors Daughter. Imagine The Reality War ending with the three forced into an adventure together, and he regenerated at the end of that episode instead
