AtlasOS, a modified version of Windows 10, is being discussed on YouTube. AtlasOS is described as a "transparent and streamlined modification of Windows". AtlasOS is designed for gamers. To improve Windows they have removed Windows Defender, Restore Points, and Security Updates
@lauriewired tl;dr epic gamer move - remove all security features to get 10 extra frames on Fortnite
@lauriewired This tweet has created a category 5 nerd fight. Please seek shelter immediately. tl;dr we criticize some project for stripping and/or modifying security features to improve performance, devs say it's optional, others say performance is not improved, all hell breaks loose
@vxunderground @lauriewired this seems distinctly unwise
@vxunderground @lauriewired Hey, I've been part of the testing team for Atlas since 2021, and I've been following development closely. Windows Defender and Updates are something we intend to focus on, as of now it's removed because of how much of a resource hog they both are. They will be optional.
@vxunderground @gospaceport @lauriewired Hey this looks interesting, but removing security updates? I’ll check this out tonight. Thanks for the heads up @gospaceport!
security updates aren't removed, there's just currently no way to "get new ones" as for mitigations, you are prompted to enable or disable them in AME Wizard and you can disable or enable them while in atlas windows updates are disabled, as it reverts optimizations made by us. we're working on a schmancy new script which will help you update whilst keeping optimizations. our dedicated audience is gamers. so if you need functionality like restore points, you should probably not bother with atlas (they're also really unreliable anyway? use something else?). windows defender, we're in the talks of making it optional inside the upgrade process. (not confirmed) this is just because it ruins CPU cycles and from a privatised standpoint, no bueno. else, thanks for the recognition 😎
@vxunderground @lauriewired Definitely a Full Opsec OS for ProHaxers!
@vxunderground @lauriewired I used apps like "DoNotSpy" to remove alot of the uneeded telemetry but removing Windows defender and restore points is something that is needed. Nontheless, I am going to run this and see if its something i need inside a VM on my linux.
