@RumbleMario I'm guessing your system depends on the client app to hand it off to the server... I turned the screen off right after it said "payment successful" but that message might have popped up from Google Pay and iirc similar happened when I was trying to get set up with Premium

I’ve seen this trope posted by a lot of doctors in the last 24 hours. The claim from doctors is that Midjourney’s cheap full body scanner is bad, because people would get treated unnecessarily for harmless conditions, and that would increase death rates. Now, I have a lot of skepticism about Midjourney’s announcement (a lot of skepticism) but I think that the doctors are failing to look in the mirror. What they are saying is, in effect, that they cannot be trusted with having more information about patients. That, if you give doctors too much information about a patient’s condition, they may kill the patient by treating them unnecessarily. This isn’t a problem with inexpensive full body scanners. This is a problem with doctors and medical practices.

I caught the block from i/o a couple days ago for calling him a narcissist over his architecture opinions—fair enough, I’m not gonna complain if someone blocks me for being rude I’m going to elaborate on my insult though because I think I’m correct In the first screenshot below we see i/o defending the Obama presidential library. Well, not quite defending it, but rather criticizing the reaction of right wingers to it His stance is that American conservatives are uncultured philistines when it comes to art and architecture. Probably true to some extent, so let’s grant it for the sake of argument. Even if true, that doesn’t mean they’re wrong about every case or about the Obama library specifically Not everything avant garde is good. In fact, most new things are probably bad because there’s more bad ideas than good ideas. In the search for new discoveries, you’ll have more failures than successes Case in point, the Obama library versus the new federal courthouse in Chattanooga. I/o called the courthouse “authoritarian kitsch” and tried to associate it with Nazi Germany because it’s designed by a Berlin-based firm and the Nazis also liked neoclassical architecture The courthouse is a melding of neoclassical and Art Deco, two lovely styles that have been popular in American history. I/o sneers in a reply that it’s “terrified of present and future design.” I’m not even sure what to say to that. It’s a modestly futuristic iteration on successful styles. Lots of innovation comes from incremental improvements on previous success. Is it wildly ambitious? No. Is it new and interesting and pleasant? Yes This brings me to my ad hominem. I/o’s opinion isn’t even good. He’s not defending the architecture on the merits. He’s coming from a place almost purely of status-affiliation. Because the courthouse isn’t avant garde, because it’s an iteration on established styles, because right wingers think it looks nice, it must be retrograde and therefore bad. This is his mode of thinking This is why I find it to be narcissistic in the Laschian sense (ironically I noticed i/o quoted Lasch a few days ago in a tweet when I was scrolling his feed to screenshot his tweets). I/o’s opinion isn’t based on whether the Obama library looks good, it’s based on what opinion he thinks he’s supposed to hold in order to be high status. It’s based on others’ perceptions. He’s forming his identity based on the image he thinks he’s supposed to project. And then he insults right wingers in the process to assuage his own ego and assert his superiority, flexing the fact that he’s spent some time forming opinions about architecture that he thinks will impress his peers (or the people he wants for peers) This is Lasch’s classic formulation of narcissism. It’s not braggadocious grandiosity; it’s the false selfhood of managing your identity to manipulate others’ perceptions of you I’m reading into his actions a little bit here, because he doesn’t actually come out and say the Obama building looks nice, he only defends it from criticism. My guess is that he knows it’s untenable: the thing is a hulking mess; hardly anyone could find it aesthetically pleasing, so it turns into an emperor’s new clothes situation where you’re expected to pretend to be open-minded about it The Obama library looks ugly, the Chattanooga courthouse looks nice. I/o’s opinions aren’t erudite; they’re status-driven. The emperor has no clothes. It’s ok to point this out.
