idk why people act like “problematic content” in books is some new thing. books have always challenged status quo, they have always been an avenue for highlighting sensitive topics and portraying questionable circumstances/existences.
idk what the booktwt drama is about today but i don’t like how up in arms everyone is over “problematic content” when thats whats books are for!!! not everything is meant to be rainbows and butterflies!!! things are meant to challenge your morals!! to make you think!!
books are meant to make you question life!! existence!! personal morals and values!! some books are meant to portray the disgusting reality of humans and how they can exist in the world, even as wretched, gut-wrenching characters! such is life!
terrible and problematic people/situations exist!! not just in books but in your everyday life and that cannot be policed! in books, its meant to be explored. that does not mean such authors condone problematic behaviors!!
(again, i have no idea what the booktwt drama is about today but these are just thoughts from me as a reader and writer)
(if someone would like yo enlighten me about which “problematic author” all these posts are about and why, id be grateful 🤭)
