A lot of people have been talking about Stellar Blade and the Male Gaze, so I interviewed some academics, played the demo, and wrote about it for Inverse. Amid the pushback against DEI and Sweet Baby Inc, it's an interesting topic to dive into inverse.com/gaming/stellar…
"Attractive to who?" really sums up what all of this is about. Eve is being used by some to bash other feminine protagonists and real women. Some gamers can't even fathom the possibility that anything other than an hourglass figure can be sexy to people
An adult woman entered into a contract with a studio and agreed to have her likeness used by them and was subsequently paid for it. Do you not support her doing this? Why do you reference the male gaze as if it seems to be a problem? The male gaze funds most OF models, if you find it problematic, do you believe OF should be shut down? I, a woman, use my female gaze to draw men who are never once in canon displayed as shirtless or “sexualized”, in a sexualized manner. Is this problematic? If not, why?
Big thanks to @Shannon_Liao for accepting this pitch and her wonderful edits and help throughout the process 😊
@veedztweets What’s wrong with a character looking a specific way? I thought we wanted realism in gaming. She is based off a 3D body scan of an actual Korean model. Not to mention the game play and story are both great so far at least from yhe demo.
