35 million tennis players by 2035. The USTA aims to make the U.S. the number one tennis-playing nation in the world—increasing the number of Americans playing the World’s Healthiest Sport to 10% of the population, while deepening positive impact in communities nationwide.
@usta Great to see these USTA efforts and promising agenda. Lew is a busy man as he and @Stacey_Allaster take on so many honorable, ambitious initiatives to make accessible and grow the game on diverse levels in the US.
@usta @lawanda50 How about pairing up with high school tennis programs to provide coaching and organizing tournaments? Tennis is a very expensive sport beyond the basic level, and coaching is one of the greatest expenses. Providing basic coaching could dramatically increase participation.
@usta Would love to see that but seems VERY far fetched......even if they can get 35mil people to play-where are the courts? Very few new courts are being built and many existing are being converted to other uses (Pickle Ball.....)
@usta You guys are the best at fake participation numbers so I’m sure this goal will be easily hit 👍
@usta What a ridiculous goal. Instead of focusing on better coaching in every state, more refs, and fixing courts you want to have people barley hit a ball. Then you pump a lie that there is a pathway in junior tennis to success when 90% of the kids playing college are Europeans.
@usta Would love to see that. Please combat pickleball
@usta Tough task. Tennis is a very expensive sport if you want to become a competitive player, even more so if you want to play in college.
@usta Many dual-sport athletes probably leave tennis due to cost and difficulty to play in college where foreign-born players are often preferred over domestic players who came through the system.
@usta People aren’t going to play what they can’t see. Minuscule Tennis Channel distribution. TC plus is too expensive for many and a 12 month commitment. ESPN only covers slams. Again, cost. Needs to be a drastic visibility increase on tv or it’s a non-starter.
@usta This is a great moonshot to aspire to . Making tennis accessible and more importantly affordable at the local community level would be top priority . Is there a way for local coaches , providers to apply for grants to improve courts or expand existing facilities ?
