Having just made my first game, I guess I didn't feel it was so different. The best case scenario is that fantasy + readability is strong enough for it to be viral-ish (usually outside of Steam). But if not, the only current option feels like pouring enough money into ads (or get a publisher who does the same) to get to "real steam". The personal calendar is probably an improvement but still very much hard to bank on. I think with the coming wave of AI games, Steam-based discovery will probably be even worse? Maybe one alternative: Charge a $5k downpayment for "Steam Premium". For every dollar the game earns in the first year, it matches $1 back from the downpayment. So, I downpay $5k and if it earns $5k, I get my $5k downpayment in full as well as the usual 70% of $5k. Any unused downpayments after 1 year go to the open source group fund. In this proposal: Steam Premium mostly works as a filtering option for players, and doesn't influence Discovery Queue or algorithm directly. So smaller games can still go viral if they are good enough (current situation). But Steam Premium is a way for users to filter out the "AI slop", with the idea that AI slop will on average earn far less than $3k in revenue. Probably makes more sense to call it "Steam Forward" rather than "Steam Premium". (With the idea that if the game doesn't do that well, you are "paying it forward" to help the ecosystem in general.)

I'm still too busy polishing Rutrum to play other games recently but Fruitbearer was an instant buy anyways. The price is super reasonable and 40% launch discount! (Partly I'm trying to avoid being inspired by other roguelites too much.)

@Tunnok0721 I also love StarVaders and its BGM. I was hoping to aim for something "relaxing". Fadlan Amada, the composer, was following my directorial vision, so any blame lies entirely with me. We tried to make the boss battle music more energetic. Personally though, I love the BGM 😆

Bit of a hidden gem (pun intended) in @uncertainkey Rutrum on Steam. While playing the demo, found an interesting combo with the "gravity chest" and a ground-to-face power up. Made with Godot. *Check it out if you like Suika style games with a final fantasy aesthetic.

@YasumiMatsuno for expanding what is possible in interactive fiction. He built a mountain range with his bare hands, alongside his comrades. @JonasTyroller for lighting the path, as torchbearer for a generation of devs. The community in his discord helped make Rutrum a reality.

Working with Brian Shepard (art) and Fadlan Amada (music) was a dream-team come true. I'm also grateful to @YasumiMatsuno, @JonasTyroller, @LocalThunk and @Friedemann_A. None of these 4 were involved in the production of Rutrum, but all inspired me in different ways.

Rutrum is officially released! 🎉 You drop coins, merge gems, pop rocks and unlock chests to make the best build possible given a limited number of item slots. At it's core, it's a "drop and merge" game with roguelite deckbuilding mechanics. Thank you to all playtesters!
