Many fans dismiss Dylan's debut (released when he was 20) bc of its lack of sophistication. I believe it deserves more appreciation. Yes, there are mostly covers, it's acoustic and very Guthrie-like but underneath it all there's the seed of a unique personality. Quite impressive.
@turnitup211off It may not be groundbreaking, but hey, everyone starts somewhere! Dylan's debut is worth a listen.
@turnitup211off And some very funny lines -- "You sound like a hillbilly. We want folksingers here."
@turnitup211off I really like his debut album. It was recorded well too.
@turnitup211off This is a great album. The roots of Dylan — who would become the songwriting genius of his time — here we see how it all started
@turnitup211off Liked it then - release date - and still do today.
@turnitup211off "Many fans dismiss Dylan's debut..." I would have to disagree with that first line, as I don't believe I've ever heard an actual Dylan fan 'dismiss' this album. I would say that it's a great listen & a solid debut, though.
@turnitup211off Bluesyer than remembered , listening to it in the last year
@turnitup211off "A Song to Woody" is original and beautiful, to my mind the only one on that first album that suggests Dylan would transcend the tedious appropriation of the Appalachians on McDougalStreet.
@turnitup211off The subtlety with which he with transforms a song to make it a completely different song Corrina got updated to a whole new level
@turnitup211off haha, written by a hip 18yo ... in 2024
