Spent the last few months trying to write about Harlem, the home I’ve come to love. Someday soon it will no longer exist. This is for all the dreams that might outlive their death: theringer.com/features/2024/…
@tribecalledlex_ @HowardBeck Great piece about a special place. Loved the detail about the Jamaican trader, old NYC type of man.
@tribecalledlex_ @ringer Sounds like it’s improving.
@tribecalledlex_ @JustinTinsley This piece is ... something. Real. Thanks for writing it.
@tribecalledlex_ Nicely written, but the failure to really grapple with the negative side of all that you cover does make it seem sentimental and unexamined. It’s sort of hidden in the use of the term “greed” instead of avarice for the original sin. Desire at all cost to own this place.
@tribecalledlex_ ‘To be Black and in Harlem is to inherit the knowledge of both what makes a tomb and what makes a throne.’ Enjoyed this so much. Excellent.
