Finally,Jones collected some paintings of Mr. Shen. she said the factors of his picture,including line,content, character and technique conformed to modern aesthetic principles. his art is both traditional yet modern, folk and worldwide…so his paintings were highly collectible.
About 10 years ago, Mr. Shen altered traditional method, trying to create Gold Lacquer Painting on black Rice Paper, not on wood board. In 2017, he achieved success and applied for a patent, that year he was 64. Jones said: "Master hides among folk! this saying is about him! "
After that, Mr. Guxikui became the most important person in Mr.shen’s life, making him obsessed with folk Art of Gold Lacquer Painting for decades. he painted unique work on polished surface of black lacquered wood board year after year, becoming a inheritor of this art school.
In 1970s, Mr. Shen went to ceramics factory to learn pottery painting in teenager. Later, in youth, he went to an antique store working as an artisan. here, met his master Guxikui (辜锡奎), an great folk artist, learned Gold Lacquer Painting from him. he's special talent in it.
Mr. Shenziyuan is the most obsessed with folk artist, Jones and I finally reached Caitang (彩塘) town, Chaozhou city, China. meeting this great old artist. we learned that Mr. Shen was 70 years old and have devoted his entire life to the pursuit of folk art. (continue soon)
"Gold Lacquer Painting” is largely focus on depicting natural landscape, and historical figure in folk legend or drama. those paintings had both golden brilliance and goodness of human nature, once loved by both palace and folk. but now only a few folk artists are inheriting it.
Jones's a collector of folk art, saying: Gold Lacquer Painting was arisen in Teochew during Qing Dynasty. artists painted works on polished surface of wood board applied many layers of black lacquer. they used gold-foil/liquid or other precious materials to painting.(continue)

finally, Jones asks: if the story of "Phoenix Woman" (凤阳婆) is true? I've ever heard many stories like that, so I prefer to trust the story of "Phoenix Woman" is true. later I search on internet, finding out the story of "Phoenix Woman" was widely spread in folk those years…
At noon, Jones and I luckily enjoy such a delicious dish that Mr. Jiang personally cooked. he added another incredible root called "Guangyin Chuan"(dialect, 观音闯) in broth. after having drunk so much medicine root soup, Jones said feeling a bit hot, full of energy. (continue)
Mr.Jiang digs up part of 7-fingered Fluff Peach roots as TCM for sale to earn money, the price is about 500RMB per kg. he also sets up a soup restaurant, he raises chickens on hillside. here you enjoy broth cooked with chicken and this root, adding Farm-to-Table dishes.(continue)
Mr.Jiang tells a real story:his dad was a folk TCM doctor, treating folks with herbs. one day, a "Phoenix Woman"(凤阳婆) come to village, knowing special herbal remedies. his dad witnessed she cured folks of intractable disease with 7-fingered Fluff Peach tree’s roots.(continue)
