Subsistence farmers, deeply connected to the land, bring local expertise, nurture landscapes & have a vested interest in preserving their surroundings. Thru tree planting they enhance biodiversity, rejuvenate degraded lands & create landscapes to benefit ecosystems & livelihoods.

By partnering with farmers, TIST goes beyond environmental conservation by supporting farmers to become catalysts for restoring environments through community engagement, becoming leaders in the process.

Subsistence farmers spearhead TIST's environmental restoration efforts. Their leadership in the program creates local leaders and their numbers amplify the scale of tree planting while intertwining sustainable land management practices and environmental restoration.

Cluster Servants in Ilolo TZ recently held a seminar on organic farming, seasonal tree planting & the carbon market. Farmers benefit from a 70% Profit Share on the carbon credits their trees generate, as well as the many benefits the trees themselves provide! #ouransweristrees

At TIST we have a tradition of sharing celebrations, both personal and organizational. Today we are celebrating the return of the new Habari Moto Moto newsletter in Tanzania! As TZ expands farmers can rely on these newsletters to keep them updated and learn new Best Practices.

TIST Farmers grow trees that absorb CO2. Each ton of carbon that trees absorb is turned into a "carbon credit." These credits represent the reduction of one ton of CO2 from the atmosphere. Farmers receive 70% Profit Share from the sale of credits on the voluntary carbon market!

The Atebwo Cluster in Kenya met recently to receive their second Profit Share payment vouchers with 21 women and 15 men present! Topics covered at the Cluster Meeting were how Profit Share works, the co-benefits of TIST and the importance of proper tree spacing. @tistprogram

In preparation for the next planting season 2024 & to kick off the planting of additional mixed groves these TIST Farmers in Uganda have started to raise seedlings early in their nursery! They are targeting at least 10 indigenous trees species, including fruit trees.

The Gitaki Cluster met recently in impressive numbers! Topics reviewed included the TIST Values, registration of new members and the payment process. Farmers join TIST because the program offers them a wide variety of opportunities to improve their health, wealth and community.

Did you know that TIST owns no vehicles in spite of operating in four countries with over 175,000 farmers?! By embracing a vehicle-free model, we hope to inspire others to adopt sustainable transport methods in their projects, contributing to a greener more eco-conscious world.

TIST Farmers in Tanzania are preparing seedlings for planting this rainy season! By being ready in advance, farmers make the most of the wet season. When the rains arrive, they're all set to plant, giving seedlings the best chance to establish themselves in the moist soil.
