Do you know what every person filled with hate and/or mental illness, who is thinking about doing a mass shooting is thinking when they hear republicans saying “We MUST have an armed security officer at every school!”? They are thinking “If that happens, I guess I’ll know who I will have to shoot first.” Initially, the shooter always has something that no one else in that school-including a security guard-will have: the element of surprise. An armed security officer would only be effective to the extent that doors and windows were able to withstand multiple high velocity rounds, preventing entry for at least 3-5 minutes after the shooter had started trying to get through, and adequate security camera usage had immediately alerted staff and the security officer that there was a shooting being staged, and what location they were attempting to enter from. ONLY then, would a security officer have the time and ability eliminate the element of surprise for the shooter, and take a position with cover, near that entry point. In doing so, the tables are turned, and the armed officer has now gained the element of surprise, allowing them to take the kill shot as soon as the shooter steps through. These are the things no one is talking about. An armed security guard who has lost the element of surprise, is like the armed lion “tamer” who is peeling an orange, with his back to the massive cat, when the lion suddenly bursts forth in one explosive lunge, just a nanosecond before the lion “tamer” has had most of their seven cervical vertebrae crushed between the powerful jaws of the lion. For the lion “tamer” the gun had become nothing but a useless prop in that situation. The GOP is ONLY interested in 15-30 second talking points they can use to trick their voters into thinking they care, and have a solution. Start asking questions about how the “armed security officer” plan would be implemented, in a way that would actually work….and their “solution” will crumble faster than the hand of a mummy caught in a firm grip. The “what” has to have a workable “how.” Otherwise, the “what”is as useless as a shoelace for a flip flop. Right now….I see nothing but shoelaces on offer by the GOP.
@thejackhopkins Perfectly said. Besides, there are 1000’s of schools across the country so who or what sort of person will they attract to guard all those schools? At what salary and who pays it? Will there be multiple guards or just one? How will they be armed?
@thejackhopkins I already appreciate your voice. Thank You! I share many of your viewpoints- you can get them far and wide, you can get them out there.
@thejackhopkins You are so smart. I am standing on the other side of the border saying #WTF . My heartfelt Canadian sympathies continue to all the gun victims. Put down the guns & put up your dukes? #BanAssailtWeaponsNow
@thejackhopkins Regulate the hell out of the ammo. No where in the constitution does it mention ammo. A retired FBI agent who is a huge 2A supporter told me I was correct about 2A not being in the const. b/c it was thought that ammo would be made by who ever had guns when the const. was written
@thejackhopkins Teachers buying their own supplies. Republicans not wanting to offer free lunches. Programs are being taken away, so where is the money for armed guards.
I’ve always wondered how armed teachers would work. When police arrive, how do they know who the shooter is if a bunch of people are armed? If shooters start dressing in khakis and polo shirts, you could have a worse situation - a bunch of non-combat trained people with guns shooting at anybody with a gun.
