I'm thrilled to announce that I'm an inaugural Artists-In-Fire resident. 🔥 I'm joining nine other fabulous artists and writers throughout the West to be boots-on-the-ground participants in prescribed fire and share our experiences with our communities. theconfluencelab.org/artists-in-fir…
This is an amazing chance to not just write and talk about fire, but actually experience it firsthand in a raw, physical way.
I take reporting on wildfire seriously, and that means not just writing stories about its destruction — but also its regenerative powers, its ecological and cultural importance, and the way that it's desperately needed to actually reduce wildfire risk in the future.
I'll be getting my red card certification and am training to be a wildland firefighter type 2 right now (which means passing the pack test, eek! along with a lot of classes on wildland fire behavior, etc.) 💪
Naturally, I'll be writing about this, and I've already got a few stories in the works. If you're an editor interested in a behind the scenes perspective of prescribed burns, or wants to chat about story ideas after the experience, please let me know!
I can't wait to nail down the specifics of which Rx burn I'll be attending this season and I'm very much looking forward to trading my pen and notebook for a drip torch and Nomex. Ty so much to the @uidaho Confluence Lab for creating this opportunity!!
@thatsMohrlikeit Congrats - this is soo cool and I'm really looking forward to it! So proud of all you've accomplished!
