#Wilko going under is sad news - started as a single hardware store in 1930s Leicester, survived world war, grew during the 2008 (even survived Woolworths) and grew to 400 stores An example of retail victims of #CostOfLivingCrisis Many others are suffering / insolvent, including Cath Kidston, Made.com, Joules, and M&Co We have to find different ways of supporting business
@thatginamiller Rubbish !! Its called (Amazon) putting the high st out of business
@thatginamiller @nigelha63474466 And the Tory government repeatedly tells us their plan is working. Perhaps we need to know exactly who it's working for?
@thatginamiller They are all businesses that were badly run! Business is about being competitive. Other discounters like B&M, Shoezone, Cardfactory are thriving. Too many zombie businesses about due to 0% interest rates the past 15 years
@thatginamiller That will be the cost of living crisis that emerged from closing down lives and livelihoods for nearly 18 months for covid. Where did you sit on that?
@thatginamiller Not everyone can get to retail parks. They are the mainstay hardware high street offering. Having said that the empty shelves, reduced choice and poor online service haven’t helped.
@thatginamiller Victims of Tory mismanagement of the economy.
@thatginamiller Poor management. I wonder who else is guilty of that too.
@thatginamiller Being forced to close for 2 years and shopping habits moving online are the real reasons.
@thatginamiller Not blaming Brexit then - you feeling ok Gina ?
@thatginamiller Wilko have been in decline for years they have been behind the pack and struggled to embrace the changing world.
