For 200L medicine student, I will not say much about the individual courses, but I will make an attempt at blanket generalisation here. READ LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. In medicine, as with all science, you need a solid foundation, you need to understand urine formation today, to understand diuretics tomorrow. You need to understand anatomy with special interest in osteology to enjoy Orthopaedics tomorrow. Purine metabolism however crazy you shokf strive to understand them, because you'll need it to understand the management of gout tomorrow. Medicine draws on pattern, logic, sequence and in some odd case, spontaneous connection of previously isolated information points. You will not escape the consequence of the work you didn't do in medicine — it is structured like that to keep things safe. You'll do well, to more actionable plans: 1. Read everyday, WHETHER YOU FEEL LIKE IT OR NOT. The unsaid part of this advice is, they'll be days where reading isn't worth it, keep those days few. 2. Always study with your lecture material first before other study materials: Video, flashcards, textbooks. 3. STUDY PAST QUESTIONS. 4. Find a study group, if you're not one to study alone. 5. If you struggle to study for long hours, Use the Pomodoro study method — look this up on YouTube. 6. Find SAME SEX mentors in the class ahead that are doing well academically. 7. Many of you may experience your first academic failure, it does not define you, that's a feedback on your preparation, adjust your methods the score will come up, I did it, and moved from 50s to 70s in Physiology. Chin up, be of good cheer, medicine is a lot, fortunately for you, you guys are a lot. Find your people, do medicine together. Enjoy medicine.
