Fascinating! Tezos has performed their full on-chain governance process: medium.com/tocqueville-gr… Also—the article mentions—they are working on implementing Zcash Sapling! Also it mentions that turn-out for on-chain governance in other systems is typically 5–7% of eligible coins.

In short, no, colluding large bakers cannot stop the chain. That said, I don't think liveness is the end be all property that one should be looking for

Tezos officially upgraded off a diff, accepted by community bakers, proposed by a company (though this could have been anyone) and they were awarded 100 XTZ for their hard work - which was specified in the code! Tried and tested, let the games begin!

Yesterday was a really great meetup! We learned how to write a simple counter Tezos contract, how to deploy it and how to check the result on TzScan with @maht0rz @cknitt demonstrated how the upcoming ReasonReact release will allow us to write almost zero-cost bindings to JS!

As an aside, the sentence "Tezos is moving away" implies some sort of concerted decision. That's certainly applicable for protocol votes, which do mark an evolution in the project, but it makes little sense when applied to peripheral tooling which is, by nature, permissionless.

One then goes on by pointing out, using @TezBox_Wallet's Fi, as an example that "Tezos" is moving away from this by building higher level languages. This misses the whole point of the approach...

2/n First of, it's not clear what one means by "FV *in* base layer protocol". Formal verification isn't a feature, it's a process. When people talk about formal verification in this space they generally don't mean that the protocol is going to somehow perform that process

0/1 I've been skeptical of the claims for the need for FV in base layer protocols because we can already see a nascent industry growing to enable FV for Ethereum at every layer of the stack
