New preprint! [doi.org/10.64898/2026.…] 🧐 We found that unusual bodily experiences (from floating sensations to out-of-body experiences) are associated with a flattening of the brain's hierarchical organization and increased EEG complexity, a pattern seen under psychedelics. 🍄

Our last article is finally published!🔬🧠 We found that unusual bodily experiences (including out-of-body experiences) can be facilitated in a laboratory setting, and they seem to appear during mixed wake-sleep states. Read the full article here: doi.org/10.1016/j.conc…

Have you ever heard about the ‘Hat Man’? Many people who experience sleep paralysis report seeing him: a dark, shadowy figure with a big hat, watching from the corner of the room. I was briefly mentioned in a Daily Mail article about this phenomenon: dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/ar…

Some fresh news!! Yesterday I defended my PhD thesis on "Electrophysiology and neurophenomenology of intermediate states of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep"🥳 Here’s a pic of a short text I shared on LinkedIn:

Interested in dream hacking and altered states of consciousness? You can now read two short texts Adriana Alcaraz and I wrote for the audiovisual installation APARICIONES, exploring these themes! To find them, explore the interactive archive at: apariciones.net

Happy to announce APARICIONES! — an audiovisual installation at📍ZiMMT in Leipzig 🗓️ 4–20 July 2025, by artist Paula Ábalos (📸IG: @paula.abalos), based on our 3-year collaboration exploring wake-sleep transitional states of consciousness. More info: 🌐 apariciones.net

Excited to share the final chapter of my PhD now out as a preprint! 🎓 We explored unusual bodily experiences (including sleep paralysis and out-of-body experiences) using high-density EEG and in-depth interviews. 🧠😴 Check it out here: osf.io/preprints/psya…

Our new review on the clinical neuroscience of lucid dreaming is out!🌙 We discuss its potential for treating nightmares and mental health, with some insights into its connection to Yoga Nidra: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

🥳 Exciting news! Our paper on 'lucid sleep' is finally published! Dive into the EEG and phenomenology of five episodes including lucid dreamless sleep, lucid dreaming, and out-of-body-like experiences 💫🧠💤. Check it out here: 🔗philosophymindscience.org/index.php/phim…

Just wrapped up an incredible experience at the 27th @ESRS_Sleep Conference in Seville, Spain!💫 Grateful for the opportunity to present my latest research and connect with so many amazing colleagues. Inspiring talks and plenty of learning and sharing!💡📚#SleepEurope2024

Looking forward to presenting at this year's @ESRS_Sleep Congress! 🌙✨ Join me on Thursday 26.09 to explore our latest EEG findings on out-of-body experiences, body hallucinations and lucid dreams. Don't miss it! #SleepEurope2024 Details: apps.congrex.com/esrs2024/en-GB…

Mindfulness, the ability to pay attention to the present moment with openness and non-judgmental awareness, has been associated with various aspects of well-being, including #sleep. This editorial looks at whether sleep can tell us how mindful we are. ow.ly/oPyH50SSoUH

It’s finally out! Thanks Rushd and Jeroen for the great work and for inviting me to join this much-needed meta analysis. Cerebral Blood Flow in Sleep: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Very proud of @tecferrer for her hard work and happy to be part of this preprint with osf.io/preprints/osf/…

Happy to share our recent preprint on lucid sleep/dreaming induction! osf.io/preprints/osf/… - I developed this approach in 2021, and it became key for my subsequent work on body hallucinations. This Friday, I'll present final results from 20 additional subjects at @ASSC27tokyo

Exciting first day at the @ASSC27tokyo! The tutorial on altered states of consciousness was even better than I expected. I'll definitely use the Altered States Database in the future. @Titoschmi @costines thanks so much for the amazing talk!

Looking forward to attending the @theASSC conference this week in Tokyo!! 🗼 I am excited to present on Friday our recent findings on unusual bodily sensations and out-of-body-like experiences induced during meditation and sleep 🧘‍♀️😴💤

@Hawally_ @IASH_Edinburgh Congrats!! 🥳

I'm excited to kick off my account by announcing my first first-author publication! 🎉 Discover our new conceptual model connecting out-of-body experiences to lucid dreams. Check it out at: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
