Every indie app developer out there buying a PO Box and a secondary phone number to report themselves as traders on the App Store, while Telegram FZ LLC has reported itself as a non-trader 🤣🤣 #appstore#appdevelopment#indiehackers
TLDR: you can be a non-trader and have a revenue stream selling apps or in-app purchases as long as it isn't your primary business.

"Having fun" developing, using a tech stack, or applying some technologies doesn't sound like the right incentive for us. Doing the right thing in a professional way does. We don't want our work to hurt, for sure, but "having fun" is more like a kindergarten thing. #buildinpublic
Last week, Apple released its response to the EU's Digital Markets Act. Our response? To help you navigate the very confusing options open to you.
At the risk of losing a click, we'll start with the conclusion: 99.99% of apps should do nothing as a reaction to the changes. Stick with the old terms and keep doing what you were doing.
A brief explanation...
Apple's response to the Digital Markets Act — a set of EU regulations that, among other demands, says that Apple and Google need to allow apps to use third-party app stores and payments on their platforms — was to offer a new set of terms for apps in the EU.
Developers can choose to accept those terms (and work through a complex set of decisions) or just stick with the status quo.
At first glance, some of the terms seem tempting. The ability to use third-party app stores? Use third-party / external payment processors? With no or lower commission? All great.
However, the Core Technology Fee, which means that devs need to pay an annual €0.50 for each new app install, reinstall, or update, means that the economics just don't work out.
Potentially, there is an opportunity for niche apps — those with a relatively low volume of installs but high ARPU, for instance. But it's still too early to tell.
So to help you understand what these changes mean and what your options are, @_chuckyc and the team have put together this guide. It even features a nifty decision tree....

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court ordered that Apple must allow developers in the US to link to and use alternative payment methods. Great news, right? About that...
In short, Apple has made minimal concessions in response to the ruling.
Apps can now link to external payment methods, but where and how is extremely limited.
Yes, you can link to payment methods with more attractive fees, but Apple will still take a 27% cut, rendering any cost-savings meaningless.
Implementing these external links (and the "scare modal") will also cause your conversion rates to plummet.
All in all, developers wishing to avoid Apple's fees via alternative payment methods should instead be investing their resources into web and email campaigns.
The whole story of the ruling is quite confusing so @HHaandr has compiled a detailed summary of the case, the ruling, and what it means to you as a developer.
