“A world without nuclear weapons is totally possible,” says @Emma_Pike_, a nuclear disarmament consultant and activist. She shared her thoughts with Times Opinion on TikTok: nyti.ms/49buYeZ
@nytopinion @Emma_Pike_ Calling yourself a nuke disarmament consultant when you have no standing with the agencies that procure, regulate, or maintain nukes is a pretty sophisticated grift.
@swe11er @nytopinion @Emma_Pike_ I think it’s about developing and using influencers for advocacy topics. By necessity they need young media savvy people.
@swe11er @nytopinion @Emma_Pike_ But she’s making ✨content✨ about it
@swe11er @nytopinion @Emma_Pike_ I was with you until you wrote "sophisticated". That, she is NOT.
@swe11er @nytopinion @Emma_Pike_ But you're being sarcastic. Got it.
@swe11er @nytopinion @Emma_Pike_ What I would like to know is, who’s paying for this grift? Why do I have the feeling it’s some kind of government grant - which means WE are paying for this grift?
@swe11er @nytopinion @Emma_Pike_ Grifter level 9000!
@swe11er @nytopinion @Emma_Pike_ Best part is she can always say she’s incredibly successful. Because no nukes have been launched! Unless of course the nukes are actually launched. But then no one will be around to call her out on failing. Perfect grift.
@swe11er @nytopinion @Emma_Pike_ even better most of her social media activity has nothing to do with nukes (shocker) and everything to do with israel. she was not particularly active before october 7th. after her activity cranked up. coincidentally, she got a grant (paid) to start a tiktok acc on october 10th.
@swe11er @nytopinion @Emma_Pike_ Unfortunately your comment, sweller, indicates a distinct lack of understanding about how transnational advocacy campaigns work. Media work, public engagement, relationship-building with diplomats and other civil society actors – all things that Emma is doing – are crucial.
