The evergreen foliage of English ivy provides a valuable nesting site for birds and bats and shelter for invertebrates. A vital food source with a burst of nectar for flying insects with its flowers & berries later in the year for birds. Ivy is an unsung hero for wildlife 💚
Let’s celebrate UK habitats this #EarthDay! 🌎
From precious peatlands to sensational seas, our wonderfully wild places are not only full of wildlife life, but they can also help us tackle climate change. Grab a cuppa, and settle in to learn all about these magical places🧵(1/6)
Ponies are back grazing at Hen Reedbeds. These will be at the reserve for the summer and will munch on the fresh vegetation creating variation and diversity within the sward and ditch edges. As you can see, we seem to have quite the character!

If you a flash of blue fluttering past you in April and May it's likely to be a holly blue butterfly (Celastrina argiolus) as other blue butterflies don't emerge until later in the year 🦋

These beetles are an important part of the ecosystem at the reserve feeding on the waste of our grazing ponies. They take the dung back to their nests which can be up to 1.5 meters deep to feed their larvae!
Today, a bill that seeks to ban peat sales in England will be introduced to parliament.
After 40 years of campaigning, could a ban on peat-based composts finally be within reach @RishiSunak?
It’s time peat stays in #BogsNotBags. 👉 wildlifetrusts.org/news/last-chan…
Did you know we are surrounded by hidden peat? 👀
When our peatlands are desperate for protection, it shouldn’t be so easy to accidentally buy peat products. 🍄
Join us on our mission to investigate where peat is hidden in the quest to be peat-free! 👉 wildlifetrusts.org/ban-sale-peat
Taking advantage of a sparser canopy to soak up the sun in April and May, our ancient woodlands are awash with the much-loved, nodding heads of the bluebell. Did you know? The UKs woodland are home to 50% of the worlds population of bluebell.
📸 Reydon Woods, Jamie Smith
Our British white cattle had their feet trimmed and checked ready for turn out in a few weeks, we do this routinely before they get turned out at Hen Reedbeds and upon arriving back at winter grazing at Church Farm.
@suffolkwildlife
The summer migrators are beginning arrive at our reserves. Nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos) have been spotted at @SWTLackfordLake, Trimley Marshes and Newbourne Springs.

📌Lackford Lakes
Sometimes, it's the simple species that punctuate acid dry grassland. Field wood-rush (Luzula campestris) flowering in early spring, also known as Good Friday grass, or Sweep's broom at Lound Lakes #LoundLakesNatureReserve@suffolkwildlife@ESWH2O
We've crossed the £200k mark for our Worlingham Marshes appeal! 👏
Please donate what you can and help us to secure this precious stretch of the Waveney Valley for wildlife, and create a new nature reserve in the Suffolk Broads 💚⬇
