This new three part series premiered today on @BBCTwo, telling the tragic story of the loss of Space Shuttle Columbia in 2003. All three episodes are now available on @BBCiPlayer . I was responsible for sourcing all the @nasa archive in the series. bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod… Expertly directed by the wonderful @lizziekempton1 and Danielle Spears working alongside the brilliant @olimroy & @_DKJ to capture extraordinary testimony, this incredibly complex story required huge sensitivity, particularly with the families of the lost astronauts... I'm in awe of what they went through making this film 🙌. wonderful to see such strong female storytellers. #rip to the incredible astronauts who were lost @MindhouseTV @simonfyoung @ArronFellows @louistheroux
Here's a short clip from the start of episode 1... the folks of Nacogdoches, Texas had no idea what was about to hit them when they awoke on February 1st, 2003.. 😔
@steveslater1987 @BBCTwo @BBCiPlayer @NASA Any plans for a US release?
@steveslater1987 @BBCTwo @BBCiPlayer @NASA I remember the loss of Colombia so well. Coming so soon after the Challenger anniversary, when I saw the newspaper headlines my first thought was that they'd got the date wrong. I just couldn't believe that we'd lost another shuttle. 😢
@steveslater1987 @BBCTwo @BBCiPlayer @NASA It was no doubt an emotionally challenging job to create this series which all space fans will surely consider a must watch whilst wishing that the story never needed to be told. Here's a great related video I shared. Space is hard. Viewing this too.😔 youtu.be/6NVinj-M1Ag?si…
@steveslater1987 @Space_Lectures @BBCTwo Alot of the paper reviews have highlighted the NASA knew reentry wasnt possible aspect but didnt tell the crew, was wondering if that was just misunderstanding of the reviewers of the documentary ?
@steveslater1987 @BBCTwo @BBCiPlayer @NASA thank you Slater both for posting and remembering this crew.. their talent out matched only by their love for each other.. I hope this will make YouTube or somewhere bc this link is limited to UK viewers only😕
@steveslater1987 Looking forward to it, Stephen. I suspected your hand might be somewhere in it - good news.
@steveslater1987 @BBCTwo @BBCiPlayer @NASA Finally caught up with it and it is absolutely superb. Bravo, sir
