We suck at predicting talent development. We're not good at it. Accept that. Now, if that's the case, why wouldn't we want to keep more people in the pipeline to see how they develop? Too often, especially in youth sports, we talent ID too quickly. We're fooling ourselves.
@stevemagness 💯 correct You really should mention how poorly professional league drafts do at predicting performers!
@stevemagness Especially at the college level where some kids grow up physically and mentally, and some kids learn that there’s more to life than their sport.
@stevemagness One could also suggest the trend is now progressing towards brand development or at a minimum a consideration
@stevemagness Moreover, some people make it who don't really have talent, but you can be damn sure they'll outwork everyone else.
@stevemagness Jose Altuve could barely get a tryout as a young player.
@stevemagness Kids also all hit their growth spurts and puberty at different ages
@stevemagness What do you mean? Ranking 9 yr olds is a bad thing😂🤣
@stevemagness I’m a middle school coach and have had problems trying to get the varsity coach (and program director) to understand this. It drives me crazy.
