Extraordinary. You could not make this up. A senior advisor to the Prime Minister of India, the most populous nation on earth, has just publicly declared that Scotland is a colony. Watch carefully what happened next, because the reaction tells you everything about the true constitutional condition of Scotland. 1. The colonial UK i.e. English government said nothing. No protest, diplomatic complaint or rebuttal. Why? Because Scotland is a colony & a protest would force the English state to defend a fiction. Any sovereign state secure in its legitimacy would immediately challenge such a statement. Silence here is fear not dignity; the recognition that the charge is accurate. The English government cannot dispute the claim without exposing the territorial alienation of Scotland even more starkly before the world. 2. The Scottish devolved administration also said nothing. No outrage, defence, explanation, protest...Nada. Why the paralysis? Because the devolved administration is structurally colonised & politically dependent. If they reject the statement, they expose themselves as collaborators protecting the coloniser. If they endorse it, they confront the English state, which they will never dare to do. Their silence is the silence of a trapped institution; confirming they are not a government. They are a departmental unit managing the colony. 3. The British i.e. the English coloniser's media system immediately locked the issue down. No BBC headline. Nothing. Total blackout. Why? Because Scotland is a colony. If this story receives oxygen, the entire narrative architecture collapses. So the BBC simply refused to report it, as if censoring the existence of the largest democracy on the planet were normal public broadcasting practice. 4. The only outlet that touched the story was The Telegraph, and for containment not journalism. The Telegraph did not even mention the name of the advisor to the Indian PM. It erased him. The person who made the statement & fabricated a decoy narrative centred on William Dalrymple, whose role in this affair was purely reactive. The Telegraph replaced the Indian-origin statement with a white British colonial intermediary to hijack the frame & reassert English interpretive control. A classic colonial tactic: erase the Global South voice, install a collaborating intermediary, redirect the discussion away from the original claim. Crazy. Dalrymple performed the expected colonial argument. He replied to Sanyal with a colonial containment line: that “ethnic Scots” had supposedly managed the English coloniser by producing Blair, Brown, Cameron. (Blair, Cameron are not Scots!) A bizarre, racist argument that assumes Scots are ethnically manageable units within an English state narrative, deployed to erase the colonial condition of Scotland; reducing Scottish identity to an administrative resource of the coloniser. A textbook example of colonial psychology at work. 5. Every actor behaved exactly as actors in a colonial system behave. – The coloniser avoided comment to protect itself – The colonised administrative class froze because its loyalty is divided, ultimately subordinate – The colonial media system suppressed the story because its function is to maintain the colonial illusion – The collaborating intellectual stepped forward to neutralise the charge, redirecting attention away from the Global South –Inadvertently confirming the original accusation. It all makes sense since Scotland is a colony. If Scotland were a sovereign nation, this episode would have unfolded entirely differently. None of this would be happening. Every institution reacted exactly as a colonial system reacts. This tells the world what the English state is desperately trying to hide. The truth is out. India said it. The world will repeat it. The English state has no answer.
