That was me for ten years. At the time you were very much encouraged to not engage with any non Mormon material. So “to leave Mormonism is to leave religion” was very much the mindset that was taught to you from birth. So going through an angry atheist phase is pretty common. It was a long journey back. What drew me to Anglicanism was a desire to find the whoever had the narrowest (and thus highest) standards in their appeal to antiquity, which is what I felt was most lacking as a Mormon.

Anglican ecclesiology is that all bishops are sovereign under Christ. All polity structure above a bishop are creations of man for the purpose of furthering the great commission. The archbishop in Canterbury was a visible sign of union but at no point had to be submitted to outside of communion bylaws. Canterbury ceased to confess what was commonly held since the beginning, and so was no longer fit to be considered as the first amongst equals. They then of late refused to fill the seat with a valid ordinant, and so it sits empty until they do.

Carl nails it. This is also sometimes called a line-drawing fallacy because it usually takes the form of asking "Where do you DRAW THE LINE between X and Y?" And the unstated assumption is that, if you are unable to draw one clear, precise, and objective line at some point, no distinction exists. We can see why this is fallacious by considering such categories as "rich" and "poor" or "child" and "adult." It is quite clear that some people are rich, although we cannot ever specify some exact amount to the cent below which one ceases to be rich. Likewise, it is of course not the case in reality that something magical happens the instant of one's 18th birthday (or whatever we designate as the age of adulthood). We can draw such lines as a legal fictions, and often need to, but again, the non-existence of any exact line of demarcation does not alter the fact that some humans really are adults and some really are children.

But it isn't just women, though it is more of them. A large percentage, if not a majority of men also lack agency. This is the central problem with modern liberalism. Its egalitarian assumptions don't hold and if they don't, none of their systems (like democracy) hold either. The entire liberal framework is failing because it isn't true, and we need to contend with that problem quickly... and we're not. A Republic with limited franchise is probably workable, given historic models, but none has ever really endured. Democracy with universal suffrage? That's obviously unstable and our "elites" know it, which is why they cheat. They don't treat "the will of the people" as if it is sacred. They override it at their whim because they recognize that the average person is stupid and low agency. They don't gain unique wisdom by virtue of multiplication.

The idea that you can talk shit with no possible physical consequence has been the "law" for a long time. But few really believed it or acted that way, it wasn't the social norm, there was some honor culture left. Actually internalizing this expectation is very new.
