Hillsborough stadium had a long history of dangerous overcrowding incidents, including near misses in the 1988, 1987 & 1981 FA Cup Semi Finals. The deaths in 1989 weren’t the first crush deaths there & 1989 wasn’t even the first disaster at Hillsborough. Here is the history: -

Graeme Sharp @OfficialOAFC striker played 107 times for club scoring 30 goals. Was appointed player-manager in 1994. Left with the club on the verge of relegation to the 3rd tier in 1997. Voted into the @Everton greatest ever XI.

David Hillier @Arsenal midfielder. Played 143 times scoring 2 goals. Won the league in 91 but missed 3 cup finals through injury. Was sold to @Pompey in 1996 for £250,000. Played 67 times before spells with Bristol Rovers & Barnet. Retired in 2003. Became a fireman in Bristol

Nayim of @SpursOfficial. Probably best remembered for his goal for @RealZaragoza from the halfway line in the last minute of the CWC final of 95. Big Dave Seaman probably still has nightmares. Played 112 Spurs games before heading to Zaragoza in 93. Ended at Logrones
