When the Shinjuku Chikyu-za shown in that old tweet was rebuilt, the Moulin Rouge reappeared as the name of a cabaret, using the windmill motif on the front of the building.
After the war, there were shenanigans over who owned the Moulin Rouge name (no-one thought it was the French). The Humax Group bought it but they didn't own the original site. They did own land in Kabukicho, for reasons outlined in this old thread: x.com/mulboyne/statu…
One construction project which did get the go-ahead was the 新宿地球座 (Shinjuku Chikyu-za - also known as the Globe). It opened in 1947, and was the first development by the firm known today as Humax. The photograph below was taken around 1955.
The Moulin Rouge in Paris hit the news, after the blades fell off its windmill. There used to be a Moulin Rouge in Shinjuku, which also used the windmill. Opened in 1931, the original site is now GLITTERS Shinjuku, with a Don Quijote as the main tenant.

@JamesHadfield It's never seemed like Asano had a part to get his teeth into before Yabushige. It helps that he didn't need English, which doesn't appear to be on the level of Sanada and Watanabe. Wonder if he now has more of an incentive.
@Mulboyne Asano already has extensive experience working overseas (in Hollywood and elsewhere), but I’d love to see Nikaido make the leap. She certainly speaks better English.
There's a lot of talk about whether there could, or should, be a second season of "Shogun". The critical and ratings success means there's probably interest from the commissioning network. The main question seems to be whether the creators would have a story to tell.
