The late 50s / early 60s were still the Wild West of TV, which I think is why early TV cartoon art got away with being well-drawn & cartoony despite tiny budgets. By the end of the 60s, for a variety of reasons, TV cartoons became garbage. But it wasn't low budgets that did it.

@spumdonor Filmation was the turning point. They originated a lot of the things that made 70s animation so ugly, like flesh-colored eyes
