For context, the Quebec Nordiques announced their move to Colorado on May 25th and were able to develop a new name and logo in time for the new season... and then when everyone hated that one, they came out with an new one, the Avalanche on August 10

Is this an argument in favour of or against rushing? I'll never know
@sportslogosnet What was the first one? I happened to be in Denver when the Avs name was released and it was everywhere
@sportslogosnet Context here is that Ryan Smith went through a rebrand with the Jazz a couple of years and it was… very much less than well received. I imagine that’s why he’s taking his time here.
@sportslogosnet IIRC, Karmanos announced the Whalers were moving in March of 1997 and decided himself on the new name of Hurricanes by May 1997. Alas, with no social media in those days, hard to gauge what the popular reaction was back then. But I think everyone was relieved it wasn’t Ice Hogs!
@sportslogosnet So you’re telling me Rocky Mountain Xtreme is still available?
@sportslogosnet While the new Utah franchise is right in not rushing things, the very worst thing they can do is to overthink this thing.
@sportslogosnet True, However that expedited effort almost resulted in this... 😬😬😬
@sportslogosnet Right ... but "Avalanche" was one of the weaker names and logos in the NHL, right from Day 1. Part of the outdated "Singular-noun weather and natural events" team-name fad in the 1990s (i.e. Storm, Thunder, Blizzard, Lightning, etc.) that infected hockey at all levels.
