No one can credibly assert that whistleblowers and others - a lot of them women - did not pay an exceedingly high price for raising concerns about what the NHS was doing with gender questioning children. The bullying & hounding of whistleblowers has prolonged the harm.

Why is that important to acknowledge? Because it’s part of the dynamic that explains why unevidenced and risky medical interventions were used with children for so long. And it’s key to preventing it from happening again. Lots of ppl need to reflect on their own role in this.
I understand why Cass referred to toxicity on the fringes of both sides in current moment. But there’s only one side who impeded whistleblowing about the welfare of children by bullying and inflicting professional consequences on actual whistleblowers. They should be ashamed.
(And I think it’s a cop out for Chris Whitty to talk about toxicity of both sides of the debate as he did on R4 this morning without calling out fact that NHS whistleblowers had reputations and careers ruined by gender activists because they were trying to do right by children)
@soniasodha @HJoyceGender The more I hear about this Cass Report, the more I think it isn't the firm repudiation of gender ideology it's cracked up to be. Whatever it is, it certainly isn't making any waves stateside, where there's been next to no reporting on it.
@soniasodha @SaintCirce There was no ‘both sides’ when it came to shutting down debate - only one side would go to any lengths, including violence, to stop the other speaking
@soniasodha This kind of thing is why, as a woman, I think about the Roman Empire every. single. day.
@soniasodha @HJoyceGender But the toxicity of those who defend and push for transition of minors isn’t coming from the ‘fringes’ of trans rights activism. It’s the core of it
